World Health Organisation renews CPA’s ‘In Official Relations’ Status
The Commonwealth Pharmacists Association (CPA) is proud to announce that the World Health Organisation (WHO) has decided to maintain CPA’s status as being in official relations with the WHO for a further three years.
The decision, which came at the 156th session of the WHO Executive Board, recognises CPA as an association which “ha[s] had and continue[s] to have a sustained and systematic engagement in the interest of the Organization”. Furthermore, to be afforded this privilege, an organisation’s aims and activities must conform to the spirit, purposes and principles of WHO’s Constitution, and they must contribute significantly to the advancement of public health.
In addition, CPA remains an accredited organisation of the Commonwealth. We are grateful to be recognised as one of only four Commonwealth-accredited organisations to be in official relations with the WHO.
Responding to the announcement, our CEO, Victoria Rutter, said:
“As we navigate this era of unprecedented challenges in global health, we remain steadfastly committed to supporting WHO’s vital mission.
“In recent years, this collaboration has strengthened antimicrobial stewardship, enhanced access to essential medicines, and fortified the pharmacy workforce – all critical pillars of universal health coverage. Looking ahead, we will continue to align our efforts with the WHO’s strategic priorities, ensuring that our expertise and resources contribute meaningfully to our shared goal of equitable and resilient health systems.
“In solidarity with the WHO, we also reaffirm our dedication to global health security, knowing that we can only safeguard the well-being of communities worldwide through collective action.”
