SPARC
Surveillance and Prescribing support for Antimicrobial Stewardship Resource Capacity Building

About SPARC
Our flagship SPARC programme delivers innovative solutions to improve antimicrobial surveillance and prescribing. We work with our partner countries to build workforce capability, capacity and resilience in health systems, in the drive for better global antimicrobial stewardship (AMS).
Launched in January 2022, SPARC has two core outputs:
- Prescribing Companion App provides a core repository of prescribing resources in both human and animal health, to drive Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS)
- Data driven resources and training to support best prescribing practices and antibiotic usage through:
– Point Prevalence Survey (PPS) antimicrobials data collection
– Continuous Quality improvement (CQI) in antimicrobial stewardship

SPARC Countries
We are working across 22 low and middle-income countries (LMICs) in Africa and Asia. By collaborating with governments, multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders we drive the AMS agenda across the whole health ecosystem of each country.

There’s never been a more important time to focus on strengthening our surveillance and information systems to help tackle infectious diseases, and especially for antimicrobial resistance. Our evidence based tools and resources support both data generation and best practice around antimicrobial usage.
Victoria Rutter, Executive Director at the CPA
Funding
Led and implemented by the CPA, the programme is supported through a UK Aid Fleming Fund grant managed by Mott MacDonald.
