Press Release: Launch of the Commonwealth Pharmacists Association (CPA) and Journal of Pharmaceutical Policy and Practice (JOPPP) partnership – announcement of new official journal of the CPA

JoPPP and CPA are pleased to announce their newly formed partnership to promote research in pharmacy and global health

Commonwealth Pharmacists Association (CPA) and the Journal of Pharmaceutical Policy and Practice (JoPPP) are pleased to announce their newly formed partnership, where JOPPP will become the designated official journal of the CPA.

The CPA is a registered charity that advances health, promotes wellbeing, and improves education for the benefit of people of the Commonwealth.  Their vision is to empower pharmacists to improve health and wellbeing throughout the Commonwealth, with a key focus on supporting and optimising medicines use in the Commonwealth particularly in low-middle income countries.

The Journal of Pharmaceutical Policy and Practice (JoPPP) is an open access journal whose aim is to promote pharmacy practice and policy research around the globe. Over the years, the journal has contributed significantly to promote global health and pharmaceutical policy internationally, and particularly in lower- middle-income settings..

The aims and objectives of the two organisations align in that JoPPP aims to provide a readily accessible platform for researchers, academics and practitioners around the world to share new evidence, concerns and perspectives relating to medicines use and access. In parallel, the CPA aims to foster safe and effective medicines management through building strong collaborative networks; partnering with member organizations to improve the quality of pharmacy practice; and creating platforms for the dissemination of knowledge about pharmaceutical sciences and professional practice.

The CPA and JoPPP have a demonstrated history of working together with JoPPP publishing key discussions relating to the work of the CPA on medicines use to support the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meetings since 2018. The newly formed MoU formalises the existing partnership, which will provide opportunities to showcase examples of the work being done within the Commonwealth, and disseminate these findings globally to stimulate partnerships and collaborations, and foster further innovations in medicines use. This is in line with the CPA’s current strategic focus around education, regulation and collaboration.

To commemorate this partnership, the CPA and JoPPP will be releasing a joint-piece on the role of regulation and continuing professional development in the Commonwealth to support Commonwealth countries in strengthening advocacy around the safer and more effective use of medicines and furthering education, research and practice.
