This feature article explores the critical issues of the availability of, and access to, medicines for children. The paper offers an important global perspective and draws out the specific challenges of developing and gaining access to age appropriate medication, coupled with the need to provide evaluated, evidence-based information for practitioners and decision makers as well as child-friendly medicines information. Importantly, the article also sets out the challenges for the pharmaceutical profession in applying its technical and clinical skills to offer innovative solutions to minimise risk, without compromise to therapeutic effectiveness.
