Meet The New CPA President, Vice President, Councillors, and Regionals Representatives
Following the recent CPA elections, we are pleased to announce our new Councillors, President, Vice President, and Regional Representatives for the next two years.
The Council is an extremely important part of our organisation as the Councillors represent their National Pharmacy Associations at the CPA. In addition, Councillors regularly communicate with the elected regional CPA representatives ensuring they are informed of National Pharmacy events, current priorities for the profession in-country, changes to pharmacy practice and legislation and provide feedback from NPAs on the CPA’s activities in their country. The full CPA meets once a year.
We are pleased to announce the appointment of Mary Anne Ciappara (Malta Chamber of Pharmacists) as the new President of the CPA. Mary Anne has been instrumental in helping to shape our organisation’s strategic vision and has been actively involved with the CPA since 1988, when she formed part of the Maltese delegation at the CPA regional workshop on Pharmacy Education and Practice in the UK. Mary Anne has been a Council Member of the Malta Chamber of Pharmacists since 1980, holding the post of secretary from 1985 to 1989 and vice president from 1991 to1992 and 1996 to 2005.
Mary Anne is taking over the role from Dr. Rao Vadlamudi, who served as President for two terms, from 2017 – 2022. We would like to use this opportunity to thank Dr Vadlamudi for his outstanding leadership and the positive impact he has made on the organisation and its members during his tenure. He remains a trustee of the CPA. We look forward to working with Mary Anne and are confident that she will continue driving our progress as we work together on our shared vision of empowering pharmacists at all levels to improve health and wellbeing throughout the Commonwealth
Dr Jonans Tusiimire, our new Vice President, will bring his expertise and experience in academia and research to enhance the professional development of pharmacists across the Commonwealth. Dr Jonans Tusiimire is a member of the Pharmaceutical Society of Uganda where he serves as vice president and chair of the education and grants committee. He is also the deputy dean, faculty of medicine at Mbarara University of Science and Technology and a senior lecturer in the Department of Pharmacy.
We would like to thank Ejiro Oyovwin Foyibo and Nancy Ho, the outgoing Vice Presidents, for their service and dedication over the past 2 years.
Today, we are pleased to announce the new Regional Representatives and Councillors. The Regional Representatives form the Regional Assembly representing their fellow Councillors across the six CPA regions; Caribbean and Americas, East and South Africa, West Africa, Europe, South East Asia and the Pacific and Central Asia, along with the CPA President and Vice-president. The Regional Assembly meets 3 times a year, and supports the Executive Director, President and Vice-President, providing input into the strategic direction and leadership of the CPA.
Our sincere thanks to all the outgoing Regional Representatives; Rao Vadlamudi, Ejiro Foyibo, Datuk Nancy Ho and Moses Mukosha. We are grateful for their commitment, passion and leadership, and wish them well in their future endeavours.
Finally a warm welcome to our new Council, composed of 25 Pharmacists, nominated to represent their National Pharmacy Association; bringing their expertise and experiences to help lead the profession across the Commonwealth.
We are excited to be working with our new team, a diverse and expert group of pharmacists from around the Commonwealth who are dedicated to empowering pharmacists at all levels to improve health and wellbeing of Commonwealth citizens.
