Join the Commonwealth Pharmacists Association

A strong, diverse, collaborative network of pharmacists and healthcare organisations

The Commonwealth

The CPA is the professional body for national pharmacy associations in the Commonwealth. When you join the CPA, you are joining a global network of pharmacy professionals focussed on improving the lives and health outcomes of every Commonwealth citizen. Our goal is to raise standards of pharmacy practice across the Commonwealth, recognising the unique challenges and opportunities in each of its 54 nations.

We also welcome

  • Non-national Commonwealth pharmacy organisations such as hospital, student and research organisations
  • Non-Commonwealth pharmacy associations and academic institutions

By working together, we can promote healthy lifestyles, improve wellbeing and increase access to pharmacy education for the benefit of everyone. We support the development and delivery of new, safe and effective medicines, and the reduction of health inequalities.

Why join the Commonwealth Pharmacists Association?

The Commonwealth encompasses some of the world’s poorest nations – and some of the richest. By working together, we can promote healthy lifestyles, improve wellbeing and increase access to pharmacy education for the benefit of everyone. We support the development and delivery of new, safe and effective medicines, and the reduction of health inequalities.

We achieve this by building and nurturing strong collaborative networks, partnering with member organisations to improve the quality of pharmacy practice, and creating platforms for the dissemination of knowledge about pharmaceutical sciences and professional practice. Together, we can support every single Commonwealth pharmacist to perform at the their very best.

To date, we have supplied over 200,000 books to 28 Commonwealth countries. Find out more about the PharmAid scheme and how it has benefitted our members.

Our membership to CPA as KEPA have not only been an opportunity to tap into an already in motion organization but has also been an ice breaking opportunity for us to amplify the Pharmacists voice globally and locally and further ensuring that we are at par with the global trends in terms of Pharmacy practice, gaining knowledge and ensuring the best outcome of our practice.

What are the benefits of CPA membership?

We offer different benefits depending on the type of membership you need. Organisation-level membership fees are based on the number of individual members you have and your country’s income banding as defined by The World Bank.

Benefits for national pharmacy associations in Commonwealth countries

The CPA was created for you. As such, national pharmacy associations in the Commonwealth enjoy more membership benefits than anyone else.

You’ll get an official seat at CPA council meetings with all that entails: the opportunity to represent your country on important pharmacy issues, and network at the highest level. You’ll be able to stand as a candidate for executive positions in both regional and Commonwealth-wide elections. We’ll support you in your dealings with government and policymakers, helping you to make representations.

Your individual members benefit from your membership of the CPA: they can take our exclusive CPD courses, attend our conferences and webinars, and get access to the knowledge and support of a global pharmaceutical community.

As a member, you’ll have the opportunity to influence the programme of our events, co-author CPD courses, contribute to our newsletters and campaigns, and promote your own events and successes through our channels. You’ll be a guiding hand in the direction of the CPA.

Our membership fees are based on the number of individual members you have and your country’s income banding as defined by The World Bank.

Benefits for other types of Commonwealth healthcare organisations and non-Commonwealth pharmacy associations

As an associate organisation, you’ll enjoy almost all the same benefits as Commonwealth pharmacy associations: advocacy, support, education and training for all your individual members, participation in global projects and publications, priority access to events, and the opportunity to celebrate successes and raise your profile thought our newsletters, website and social media platforms.

Benefits for individual pharmacists

As well as organisation-level memberships, we also welcome individual members. If your Commonwealth country doesn’t currently have a national pharmacy association – or you don’t want to join it for any reason – you have a home here.

That said, we strongly encourage you to join your national pharmacy association if you can. By doing so, you are enabling them to deliver pharmacy training, advocacy and support which is specific to your country and your needs as a pharmacist.

If your national pharmacy association is a member of the CPA, their members automatically get access to our CPD courses, meetings, events and network. When you join your national pharmacy association you become a member of the CPA. By joining your local pharmacy association you get the experience and resources of two professional pharmacy bodies for one fee.

The Pharmaceutical Society of Zambia (PSZ) would like to thank the Commonwealth Pharmacy Association (CPA) for providing the much needed Continuing Professional Development (CPD) courses to its members. Through this CPA, CPD program, our members have maintained and enhanced their knowledge and skills needed to deliver a professional service to the customers, clients and the community. Our members are now involved in educating the public through various media platforms on the importance of antimicrobial stewardship. We are thankful to the CPA for this initiative.

How much does it cost to join the CPA?

We believe that our annual membership fees are both affordable and great value. Fees are based on the number of individual members in your organisation and your country’s income banding as defined by The World Bank. We’re aiming to create long-lasting, mutually-beneficial relationships.
