Global health – Networking for Better Outcomes was the theme of the Symposium conducted jointly by the Commonwealth Pharmaceutical Association, the Commonwealth Dental Association, the Commonwealth Nurses Federation and the Commonwealth HIV/AIDS Action Group. The Symposium was held during the Peoples Forum on the occasion of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Malta, November 2005.
Mr Winston Cox, Commonwealth Deputy Secretary-General, welcomed the delegates and introduced the major topics of discussion: HIV/AIDS – Access to Treatment and Care and Migration of Health Professionals – the Global Response.
Speakers included: Dr Alice Welbourn, Chair UK Board of Trustees, International Community of Women Living with HIV/AIDS; Dr Richard Scheffer, Chair Advocacy Committee of the UK Forum for Hospice and Palliative Care Worldwide; Professor Agyeman Badu Akosa, President, Commonwealth Medical Association and Director-General, Ministry of Health, Ghana; Dr Richard A Cooper, Professor of Medicine, Leonard Davis Institute, University of Pennsylvania, USA.
