CPA Honoured at the 2025 Antibiotic Guardian Awards!
CPA won in the Diagnostic Stewardship category and was commended in others
The Commonwealth Pharmacists Association (CPA) was delighted to be honoured at the 2025 Antibiotic Guardian Awards, which took place in Birmingham earlier this month. The ceremony, hosted by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), recognised the efforts of CPA and other organisations in the field of antimicrobial stewardship (AMS), and brought together various stakeholders as we collectively seek to combat antimicrobial resistance (AMR) globally.
The Clinical Microbiology workstream – a component of our Commonwealth Partnerships for AMS (CwPAMS) programme – emerged victorious in the Diagnostic Stewardship category for its work in diagnostic resource development to aid clinical integration of microbiology services in lower- and middle-income countries.
This award recognises the immense efforts of our Microbiology team – Dr Nikki D’Arcy, Claire Brandish, Nyambura Moremi, Dr Kaunda Yamba, Jemma Mangan-Casbon and Dr Jean O’Driscoll – to advance microbiology within the CwPAMS Health Partnerships and beyond. You can read more about the work of this project by reading Nikki’s blog here.
“The responsibility to be an Antibiotic Guardian falls upon us all, and microbiology is a key component of that chain of responsibility. It is an honour to be nominated and to have our work acknowledged.”
Dr Nikki D’Arcy
Senior Technical Project Manager (Clinical Microbiology), CwPAMS
Additionally, our Surveillance and Prescribing Support for AMS Resource Capacity Building programme’s Prescribing Companion App was ‘highly commended’ in the Animal Health, Agriculture and Food Supply Category for furthering AMS in the agriculture and food sector through access to evidence-based animal health guidelines. Finally, although not honoured on this occasion, CwPAMS’ utilisation of the Hub and Spoke Model was shortlisted for the hotly-contested Multi-Country Collaboration award.
We are also immensely proud of all of our CwPAMS Health Partners who were shortlisted for awards:
- Nakaseke General Hospital (Infection Prevention and Control)
- Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board and the Pharmaceutical Society of Malawi (Multi-Country Collaboration)
- The Faculty of Public Health and the Ghana Public Health Association (Multi-Country Collaboration)
- Makerere University School of Public Health (Multi-Country Collaboration)
- University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust (Multi-Country Collaboration)
- Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust, Makerere University and Nottingham Trent University (Research)
We would like to warmly congratulate all of the organisations that were shortlisted for awards for their commitment to combating AMR, and thank the UKHSA for their coordination of such a celebratory yet thought-provoking evening.
