Alliances
Working collaboratively with a range of organisations in the global pharmacy and healthcare space

The CPA works in collaboration with CASPPER
The Collaboration of Australians and Sri Lankans for Pharmacy Practice, Education and Research (CASPPER) is an international partnership of clinicians, educators and researchers mainly from Australia, Sri Lanka, and the UK. They aim to develop clinical pharmacy services through education and research, in order to enhance health outcomes in Sri Lanka. Founded in 2009, they have taught in the University of Sri Jayawardenapura and the University of Peradeniya, and supported research at the University of Kelaniya.
At the 2016 CMA conference in Colombo, the CPA and CASPPER provided joint seminars on AMR and the evidence for clinical pharmacy, as well as running a CPD workshop for the Pharmaceutical Society of Sri Lanka. The two organisations also signed an MoU that recognised joint goals, and committed to the continuation of working together to advance health for the public’s benefit by supporting the development of the profession in Sri Lanka through education, research, dissemination of best practice and advocacy.

The CPA is an observer organisation of FIP
Founded in 1912, The International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) is the global body representing pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences. Through their 139 national organisations, academic institutional members and individual members, they represent over three million pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists around the world.
The CPA and FIP each have unique roles that complement one another. The CPA’s focus is on the sharing of resources within the Commonwealth to support lower- and middle-income countries to improve the health and well-being of their populations. The remit of FIP is much wider: it evidences need and sets standards that the CPA uses to support members to interpret and implement as best practice.
The CPA was granted Observer status with FIP in 2015, with the intention of strengthening links and relationships between the two organizations. Our Observer status gives us access to information, resources and networks that would not otherwise be available to us. We also benefit from a seat on the FIP council and access to opportunities for joint working around common goals.

The CPA is a member of Commonwealth Health Professions and Partners Alliance (CHPA)
CHPA is an alliance of Commonwealth-accredited health professionals and other health practitioner associations. By working together, members of the CHPA can more effectively and efficiently represent and support health professionals in Commonwealth countries, and promote high standards of care – and equity in access to care – for Commonwealth citizens.

The CPA is a supporting organisation of HIFA
Healthcare Information For All (HIFA) is a global health network of more than 16,000 members including health workers, librarians, publishers, researchers and policymakers. Its vision is a world where every person has access to the healthcare information they need to protect their own health and the health of others. HIFA uses its vast collective knowledge and experience to bring clarity to challenging questions around global health issues and healthcare information issues.
In recognition of our joint goals, the CPA is part of HIFA’s working group, ‘Prescribers and Users of Medicines’. This group’s vision is a world where every prescriber and user of medicines will have access to independent, reliable and relevant information on the full range of commonly prescribed medicines, and will know where to find it.

The Journal of Pharmaceutical Policy and Practice (JoPPP) is the official designated journal of the CPA
The Journal of Pharmaceutical Policy and Practice (JoPPP) is an open access journal promoting pharmacy practice and policy research worldwide. In recognition of our aligned vision to promote pharmacy practice and policy research across the Commonwealth, the CPA is collaborating with JoPPP as its official journal to improve the quality of pharmacy practice [through the dissemination of knowledge about pharmaceutical sciences and professional practice.]
The CPA and JoPPP have been working together since 2018 with JoPPP, disseminating key discussions relating to the work of the CPA on the safe use of medicines, pharmacy practice and policy, to support the Commonwealth Heads of Government meetings.
To commemorate their partnership, the CPA and JoPPP will be publishing a joint article on the role of regulation and continuing professional development (CPD) across the Commonwealth, supporting countries to advocate for the safe and effective use of medicines.
